I was lucky enough to spend more time with Matt Palmer. I dug into his past to understand how he did it.

Here are some things I was struck by

It took him a while

When he quite his job, he didn’t find his current manufacturing startup right away. it took him 3-6 years before he landed on it.

There were detours

He spent a lot of time iterating on seemingly unrelated projects. Each project “failed”, but each gave him a necessary gift that he leveraged to move forward.

He wasn’t trained for this

Matt wasn’t trained as a mechanical engineer, yet he’s still doing it. Trust your ability to adapt.

There were setbacks

Not everything was sunshine and roses, there were existential risks he had to overcome.

Consulting

This was the most actionable - in the early days he did part time consulting to pay the bills. I can keep this as a tool in the toolbet for the right time when I need income.
